Two ways to work
Ocai works in one of two modes. In Interactive, you and Ocai take turns: it does a piece of work, hands the result back, and waits for you. In Autonomous, you hand over a goal and it takes it from there, working through the steps and reporting when it is done.
Interactive is what you get by default. Autonomous is the one to reach for when a task is clear enough that you would rather walk away than supervise.
Working in interactive mode
Open a chat and start typing, and you are in interactive mode. Ocai does the work you asked for and returns the result, and you refine it by replying. Ask a follow-up, correct a detail, change the direction. Nothing runs without you.
Use it when the answer depends on your judgment, when you are still working out what you want, or when the job is small enough to do in a couple of exchanges.
Handing over a goal
Autonomous mode takes a goal rather than a conversation. Give Ocai the outcome you want and the constraints that matter, and it works through the steps on its own: reading your files, searching where it needs to, checking its own work, coming back with the result.
Give it enough to go on. Say what done looks like, which files or sources matter, and anything it should leave alone. The clearer the finish line, the better the result comes out.
When it finishes you get the outcome, and you can keep going in the same chat if it is not quite right.
Switching modes
- Start in interactive mode, which is the default.
- Move to autonomous once you have a goal you want handed over.
- Move back whenever you want to take over and steer.
When to use which
Use interactive mode to explore, decide, and write. Use autonomous mode for work with a clear finish: a piece of research, a pass over a folder of files, a draft built from a brief.
If you are unsure, stay in interactive. Handing a goal over later is easy; going back and asking what the model was thinking is not.
Questions people ask
What happened to advanced mode?
Advanced mode is retired. The two modes now are Interactive and Autonomous, and together they cover what it used to: interactive for work you want to stay close to, autonomous for work you want to hand over.
Can I switch mid-conversation?
Yes. Switch whenever the work changes shape — go autonomous once the goal is clear, come back to interactive to refine what you get.
Does an autonomous run use more credits?
A longer run means more tokens, and tokens are what credits are made of. Watch your balance in the Wallet if a task is doing a lot of work.
